Technical Mentoring and Elmering Net – 11/16/2023

The audio archive of this and other SBARC nets have been indefinitely discontinued. Hopefully the audio recordings will be resumed before too long by another local ham enthusiast with the technical ability and resources necessary.

We had another interesting net tonight with 10 check-ins plus net control Dave, AI6VX. Tonight’s topics included:

  • ICOM IC-706 in constant scan mode as soon as it’s powered up, acting like a stuck “down button”. The problem was traced to a metal shaving bridging a circuit.
  • Making an 80 M mobile whip.
  • Inverted V antenna for a power boat with a mast.
  • What are the similarities between AllStar and Asterisk and can I use call record to record SBARC Nets and have them playable from the SBARC website? (KA6KEN)

Tune in to the SBARC TM&E Net every Thursday at 8:00 PM local (2000 Hrs) and see what interesting ham radio questions might arise or ask some of your own! All club members and visitors are encouraged to check in to the net each week.

November 17, 2023 General Meeting – Election and Home-brew Night

November meetings are always election night meetings, so members who did not vote online will be able to vote in person. Of course we’ll all be tallying up the votes and announcing the winners, so plan on being there, even if you already voted.

November meetings have traditionally also been Home-brew Night!  We invite everyone to bring a something you have built, or a project in progress, to show, demonstrate, and tell your ham friends about. Home-brew is what being a ham is all about! Anyone can go buy a radio, antenna or other accessory, but to many hams, building their own gear is much more fun and rewarding. So bring something (or a lot of things) because we’re all interested in seeing what you’re up to!

We will also be hosting this meeting on Zoom, if you can’t attend in person, but please try to be there if you can to congratulate the new board members, whoever they are!
