Technical Mentoring and Elmering Net – 2/8/2024

The audio archive of this and other SBARC nets have been indefinitely discontinued. Hopefully the audio recordings will be resumed before too long by another local ham enthusiast with the technical ability and resources necessary to do so.

We had another interesting net tonight with 7 check-ins plus net control Dave, AI6VX. Tonight’s topics included:

  • Asiatic Russia contact is coming in clear and strong even though he’s not located in my beam heading or long path heading. Any explanations?
  • What is an isotropic antenna and how do we use it in theory?
  • 10 meter activity booming as we near the peak of the current solar cycle.

Tune in to the SBARC TM&E Net every Thursday at 8:00 PM local (2000 Hrs) and see what interesting ham radio questions might arise or ask some of your own! All club members and visitors are encouraged to check in to the net each week.

General Club Meeting January 19, 2024

Our first meeting of 2024 will feature a presentation by Warren KN6ZZI. Warren is a relatively new ham and our newest board member. Warrens main interest in amateur radio was HF operation. A scientist by profession, Warren leveraged his analytical skills to research and build a new station from the ground up. With no experience in amateur radio, he identified his goals and utilized the experience of other club members and online resources to build a very capable station capable of working the world.

It is not often that we are able to hear about station building from someone with Warrens unique perspective. Stations often take years to come together, but Warren did it in a couple of short months.

Please join us this month to hear about Warrens journey from a non-ham to a capable DX’er
