Since we assume that everyone is interested in radio, we’ll be looking at some various types of software defined radios. While these radios can listen to amateur radio frequencies, you can also explore the radio waves that are all around you. These radios are fun to use and the software for them is generally free.

Technical Mentoring and Elmering Net – 4/10/2025

The audio archive of this and other SBARC nets have been indefinitely discontinued. Hopefully the audio recordings will be resumed before too long by another local ham enthusiast with the technical ability and resources necessary to do so.

We had another interesting net tonight with 3 check-ins plus net control Dave, AI6VX. Tonight’s topics included:

  • KiwiSDR 2
  • In a tube amplifier one of the tubes has developed a black spot, does it need to be replaced?

Tune in to the SBARC TM&E Net every Thursday at 8:00 PM local and see what interesting ham radio questions might arise or ask some of your own! All club members and visitors are encouraged to check in to the net each week.

  • 3D printing.
  • Purchased used IC751 and the display won’t illuminate.

Collins 30L1 linear amplifier. Perfect condition. Good for about 600W on CW or SSB. 400W on ft8. (power supply wasn’t designed for digital service).
I have added stability modifications to prevent parasitic oscillations. Wired for 240V but can be used on 120V.

March 21, 2025 Club Meeting

For this months meeting we will be joined by Rick Closson. Rick is part of the EQ25 project that is commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the great Santa Barbara earthquake. This was truly an event where ham radio saved lives. It was local hams, using early radio transceivers that were able to let the world know we needed help. We have been invited to help reenact this historical event,

The earthquake nearly flattened the downtown area and changed the face of State Street forever. Rick will tell us more about the earthquake at the meeting and explain how SBARC can help support this event. This is a great opportunity to get publicity and public recognition.
