Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club Contesting SIG History
Following on the success of Field Day 2000, the Contesting SIG is reforming. It is hardly a new activity group since SBARC has a long and past history for contesting. For those more recent and younger Hams here is some history:
- SBARC has not missed participating in a Field Day for over 30 years or more!
- For 15 consecutive years SBARC entered and ranked very high in the ARRL Annual UHF Contest from Diablo Peak Santa Cruz Island.
- During that same period during of the late 70s and through the 80s we entered the VHF contests on a regular basis in January, June and September from Santa Ynez Peak, Broadcast Peak, Winchester Gun Club and other elevated sites
- During that same period during of the late 70s and through the 80s we entered the VHF contests on a regular basis in January, June and September from Santa Ynez Peak, Broadcast Peak, Winchester Gun Club and other elevated sites
- We also had inter-club contest for members to operate against each other from their own QTH and/or mobile stations. The TZ repeater was used on a regular basis in the evenings to chase HF contacts for both contesting and DXing.
