Joe Heumphreus, K6DXW, (center) shows Bruce Gordon, N6OLT, and Bob Levinson, K6CZD his GMC pickup truck's installation. Joe is active in two organizations, ARES and the American Red Cross, so his installation reflects that. Equipment includes a Kenwood TS-50S HF transceiver (with KA4RKT mod for 60 meters), a Kenwood TM-742 (6M, 2M, 70 cm) transceiver, and a Uniden scanner mounted in a StreetThunder stacking system. In addition, behind the seat are a Clearvoice Speaker, Kenwood AT-50 Antenna Tuner, and Motorola Handheld mobile charger. A Garmin GPS III s mounted on the dash. A Diamond roof mounted NR72B antenna and MX72D diplexer provide the VHF-HI and UHF antenna. A Kenwood RA-4 HF antenna is mounted on the left rear fender. Antenna accessories and Antenna Specialists 50 MHz antenna are stowed in the toolbox behind the cab, along with tools, additional coax, fuses, spare microphones, and basic test and repair equipment. Also on board are duct tape, tarp, waterproof jacket, TP, boots, 2 gallons of water, safety vest, road flares, and a pack shovel.
