General Class License Training Sessions

Class Focus:
  o Learn how to operate a shortwave radio in an emergency
  o Learn basic electronics and how radio receivers and transmitters work
  o Find out what CW, AM, FM, SSB, DSB, ATV, RTTY, and K6TZ mean
  o Pass the FCC General level exam, to utilize HF frequencies
  o Morse code is no longer required to obtain an General class license
  o Talk to other hams on shortwave radios from the SBARC station

When: April 13 through May 14 (8 sessions, plus a license exam)
  o Wednesday, April 13 6:00pm Introduction, HF Procedures, Rules & Regulations
  o Saturday, April 16 8:30am Math Review, Basic Components (Series & Parallel)
  o Wednesday, April 20 6:00pm Peak-to-Peak, RMS Voltage & Power Calculations, Transformer & Impedence
  o Wednesday, April 27 6:00pm Reactance & Resonance, Semiconductors & ICs, Digtital, Antennas
  o Saturday, April 30 8:30am Power Supplies, Batteries, Connectors & Test Equipment, Radio Signals, Radio Equipment
  o Wednesday, May 4 6:00pm Propagation, Electrical & RF Safety
  o Tuesday, May 10 6:00pm Review & Practice Tests
  o Thursday, May 12 6:00pm Review & Practice Tests (if needed)
  o Saturday, May 14 8:30am License Exam at SB County Health Building

Where:
  o Santa Barbara Red Cross (Upstairs classroom)
State St. & Alamar (parking lot behind Red Cross building off of Alamar)
  o Exam at: Santa Barbara County Health Care Services,
Administration Building, 300 North San Antonio Road, Santa Barbara

Preparation:
  o Obtain “The ARRL General Class License Manual” – 6th Edition (Also available from SBARC in limited quantities. See contact info below.)
  o Visit the SBARC club station at the Red Cross building any Saturday morning or Tuesday evening to see and hear about Amateur radio
  o Come to the SBARC meeting on March 18 for more information
  o Check out SBARC and ARRL web sites

Cost:
