Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club

Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club
We Need Your Help!

Do you know that there is an organization in Santa Barbara that provides free radio communications services to the Sheriff and Fire Departments and during marathons, parades and other events in Santa Barbara?

The organization is the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club, and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) hundreds of members strong. These citizens have passed a rigorous exam conducted by the Federal Communications Commission, spent their own money on communications equipment and give willingly of their time.

These Ham Radio operators who step forward in times of need are now in need of your help. The Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization so your donations are tax deductible. Your assistance is needed now.

In addition to providing emergency communications services for disasters such as fires and events such as parades (including the El Desfile Historico Parade during Old Spanish days), they also provide communications during red flag fire alerts and work with others who volunteer their time flying over the County looking for any signs of fire. Extensively trained, Ham Radio operators are ready for action in any kind of an emergency and are there to assist with the pilots’ communications needs.

During major national and international disasters, the Amateur Radio community is often the first to establish communications in devastated areas. Amateur Radio volunteers work tirelessly to help direct assistance to where it is needed, and work with the American Red Cross to locate family members of those who have relatives in affected areas.

SBARC and ARES members continue to give back to Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County, and spend countless hours of their own time and money in order to be prepared for the next time they are called upon to assist the public and first responder community. Now they need your help to replace their old, deteriorating radio equipment shelter with a new, state-of-the-art building to house their emergency radio communications equipment. Your donation is tax deductible and will be greatly appreciated.

The radio equipment that provides the backbone for the SBARC communications network is housed in sheds adjacent to the City of Santa Barbara communications facilities. These sheds are more than thirty years old and are in desperate need of replacement.

We have elected to purchase a pre-fabricated communications shelter designed specifically to house radio communications and computer equipment. We have obtained the necessary permits from the City of Santa Barbara and we are ready to begin work on this project.

The club has raised some of the money required through membership dues and fund-raising activities but we need your support and your donation to complete the project.
