Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club
4th U.S. ARDF Championships

U.S. Orienteering Federation Executive Director’s Welcome

On behalf of the United States Orienteering Federation, I'd like to welcome all competitors to the 4th annual U.S. ARDF Championships, hosted by the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club and the Los Angeles Orienteering Club.

ARDF is a multi-disciplinary sport, and as such is quite challenging and a lot of fun. ARDF requires good Orienteering skills and ARDF improves Orienteering skills for those who already are Orienteers. ARDF and Orienteering are a natural fit. Orienteering clubs have been supporting the U.S. ARDF Championships since 1999 in Salem, Oregon.

Many Orienteers are learning the joys of becoming Amateur Radio operators after trying ARDF, including myself. Thanks to ARDF, many Amateur Radio operators are learning about Orienteering who might not otherwise give it a try. It’s a wonderful learning and competition opportunity for both groups.

I hope you enjoy the Championships.

Robin Shannonhouse, KG4UFX
Executive Director
U.S. Orienteering Federation
